A Good Read

This weekend I indulged. I read something just for fun. I avoided my stack of "I need to read" books. A book that I reserved from our fabulous Public Library System (Gwinnett Public Library)  Knitting Bones by Monica Ferris was available. This is the latest title in a series of murder mysteries set in a Knitting/Needlecraft shop in Minneapolis. Now, I don't really knit, but everytime I read one of the books in this series, I want to knit my own socks. Goddy, one of the characters, knits his own white cotton socks. I love socks, especially novelty socks. I can just feel a pair of socks made with some of the luscious new yarns. I just might have to break down and take a knitting class at the shop in Lawrenceville, The Yarn Garden. Knitting Bones was a soothing, comfort book. This book has a crow in the storyline. Made me laugh and think of my quilting friends "The Crows." Betsy, the shop owner, has a cat which made me think of my friends, Gretchen and Karin and their cats.  It's a quick read. The first book in the series is Crewel World. Let me know what you think of the series if you give it a try.

Happy Reading!

Sunday Summary
It's been a great weekend. We had absolutely nothing on the calendar. We slept until we felt like getting up (or Rusty, our Dachshund decided that it was time). I spent most of yesterday in my sewing room. I had time to actually get to the part that I love - feeling the fabric transform under the machine needle. I got lots done on the blue and yellow version of Peace in the Valley. I have the rows pinned together and will finish sewing them together tonight. Just the borders to piece and the applique. It's super watching this quilt come together.

A Holiday.... A Birthday

Today is a holiday from school and work. It's wonderful to have a three day weekend, especially a weekend with snow in Atlanta. It was incredibly beautiful on Saturday. I could look out my window in my sewing room as the snow fell. It was just a good weekend to be home. Friday evening we watched the Pixar movie Ratatouille. It was fun to have a family movie night. It's hard to find something that we all enjoy.

Saturday, I spent most of the day in my sewing room. Bliss! I'm working on Peace in the Valley. This pattern was designed by my quilt teacher/mentor, Pat Wys who is Silver Thimble Company. It is a paper-pieced, square in a square block.  My quilting buddy Gretchen and I spent a day sewing with Pat to make the blocks for her green and gold version. On Sunday, my dear friend Kathy and I went to the Sunday Sisters group at Stitch 'N Quilt Shoppe. I was able to finish the blocks for Peace. Kathy is working on rag quilts for grandbabies due this Spring. She is new to quilting. It is fun to see her excitement as she discovers the joy of quilting.

Today, I am working on computer projects. We had to replace one of our home computers on Monday. We bought a new IMAC. Marion and I are using the new computer. The boys are using our old IMAc, so it has involved transferring files, photos and a bit of new learning. I finally got my photos on the right computer so I should be able to post some pictures. We'll see.

Peace to all,
Becky

A New Year Begins

I love beginnings and endings. Another year has ended. Time for reflection. Time to recreate! One of my goals for the new year was to begin a blog. For the past year, I've loved reading other folks blogs. It is now time to contribute and share. My quilting buddy, Gretchen and I challenged each other to get started in the blog world. She began her blog last week. Ok, Gretch! Let's see if I can get this one launched.
