I shopped at a Knitting Store. All that yarn was begging to come home with me. I managed to purchase just one skein and new needles. I finished a scarf, but didn't like how it looked so I ripped it out and began a new one. I had hoped to finish it before winter ended. We've had a long, cold winter and it would have been handy. I'm nearing the end of the scraf. Kristie, who blogs at M.S. Doolittle Quilter has attempted to instruct me in knitting socks. I do
great as long as Kristie is sitting next to me to answer my questions. When I get home and knit alone, I don't know what to do. I haven't given up. I will knit socks and even wear them!

Not Quite Socks
I love socks! I want to knit socks. It makes no sense. I can purchase perfectly great socks, but I want to knit a pair or two or three. The main problem is that I don't really know how to knit. Well, that never stopped me before. I normally fall in love with a project and jump right in without the necessary skills. I did that with counted cross-stich and quilting. Soooo, I decided to start small with knitting. Even I can see that I'm not ready for socks. I can't figure out the pictures in "how to knit socks" books. I made a couple of scarves, but don't wear scarves so washcloths seem to be the best project. It had been so long since I had knitted that I couldn't remember how to do the Purl stitch. A consultation with a teacher at school and studying my "how to book" solved this problem. Online videos were helpful, too.
This is what I've been working on in the evenings and during Saturday football games. It's College football season. Football is one of DH's passions. We see lots of football games this time of year. Geaux, Tigers!
I'm getting better at this knitting thing. I'm beginning to make some sense of the dishcloth pattern. I think I can even recognize which stitch is which. Atlanta quilting friends, does anyone know how to knit socks? I'm thinking I need a private tutor. My knitting guru at work took a class, but didn't finish the project. Kristie.... Brenda.... Anyone to the rescue?

A Good Read
This weekend I indulged. I read something just for fun. I avoided my stack of "I need to read" books. A book that I reserved from our fabulous Public Library System (Gwinnett Public Library) Knitting Bones by Monica Ferris was available. This is the latest title in a series of murder mysteries set in a Knitting/Needlecraft shop in Minneapolis. Now, I don't really knit, but everytime I read one of the books in this series, I want to knit my own socks. Goddy, one of the characters, knits his own white cotton socks. I love socks, especially novelty socks. I can just feel a pair of socks made with some of the luscious new yarns. I just might have to break down and take a knitting class at the shop in Lawrenceville, The Yarn Garden. Knitting Bones was a soothing, comfort book. This book has a crow in the storyline. Made me laugh and think of my quilting friends "The Crows." Betsy, the shop owner, has a cat which made me think of my friends, Gretchen and Karin and their cats. It's a quick read. The first book in the series is Crewel World. Let me know what you think of the series if you give it a try.
Happy Reading!
