Atlanta Shop Hop Day Two

It's a week later and I still have many photos from Shop Hop to share. Don't want you to miss visiting the other great shops we visited. Friday was a day to run errands. My circle  was enlarged slightly to visit the two quilt shops closest to my home. Intown Quilters is located in Decatur, Georgia. Intown was a coffee house, one of my favorite places.  This is the shop for lovers of brights, batiks and "modern" fabrics. There is an extensive collection of 1930's fabrics that I have a hard time resisting.
This fabulous quilt is an upcoming class called "Hot Flashes."

The shop has an abundance of patterns for clothing, bags, children's styles.
Love the color in Intown's Shop Hop Quilt

The shop closest to my home is Patchwork Cottage in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Patchwork Cottage morphed into a haunted house.
Beware of nurse Sandy, rotary blade accidents are her specialty.
Our passports were stamped by the resident witch.

Celebration!!!

The CELEBRATION began with the arrival of this quilting magazine in mailboxes and newsstands.

Our quilting teacher/mentor/friend Pat Wys of Silver Thimble Quilt Company designed the project Gathering Baskets in the Sept./Oct. 2010 issue of McCall's Quilting.

Yahoo!!!!  At one of our "Musketeer Sewing Sessions", Pat worked on this project to submit to McCall's Magazine. We'll been waiting for monthS to actually see the quilt "in PRINT." On Saturday, August 7th, Mita owner of Patchwork Cottage Quilt Shop hosted a party to help in the celebration of this event.

And gather and celebrate, we did.

Quilt Shop Grand Opening

Today was the Grand Opening Celebration at our newest quilt shop, Patchwork Cottage in Lawrenceville. Quilt designer extraordinaire, Pat Sloan was at the shop to help launch the celebration. The shop has Pat's new line of fabric Arabella as well as some of her Sweetbriar line. The quilt in the background is Pat's new pattern "A Secret Garden" using her Arabella fabric. It was fun visiting with Pat. Pat's blog was the first blog that I followed and read religiously. She spoke at the Gwinnett Quilter's Guild several years back. I took time off from school to attend her lecture at the guild event. I've followed her blog and numerous Yahoo Groups since then.

It was great fun visiting, eating, and shopping. There were quite a few ladies there that I had not seen in a bit - Jane V., Linda K., Marty M., Jayne B.   Lots of fun!

Look at the fun bag that was given to the first 50 shoppers. I think I was number 49. Of course, Rusty has to check out everything on "his" sofa. I purchased some light prints for the 16 Patch and Pinwheels project. I don't have what I need for that upcoming project. The navy print is for a project in "the plastic boxes." I looked at it the other day. It could use a couple more indigo pieces.

National Quilting Day

Saturday is National Quilting Day. How will you celebrate this most favorite holiday? My quilting club  The Silver Thimble Club meets tomorrow from 10 to 3. I plan to sew and sew and sew. I cut the binding for two quilts. The quilts are at the long-arm quilter, but I want to have the binding ready to attach when they are quilted.  I also cut some 10 inch flannel squares and batting for a rag quilt. I chose blue and tan flannel from my fabric stash. I dont' have alot of flannel, but I've been mentally planning this quilt for several years. My plan is to donate this quilt to the Gwinnett Quilter's Guild's Just for You service project. These quilts are donated to children who are in the hospital with serious illnesses. The guild collects several hundred quilts each year. I want to make one for an older child, especially an older teen boy. This quilt will also be easy to sew while we talk, laugh and have a great time.

Sunday, Patchwork Cottage will have it's grand opening. Patchwork Cottage is our newest quilt shop. It opened in early Febrary. Mita, the owner, has invited Pat Sloan to help celebrate her grand opening. I'm hoping to spend some time at the shop visiting with Pat and enjoying the new shop. Well, maybe I'll do a little shopping:)
 It sounds like great fun.

Welcome to Patchwork Cottage

On my way home from work today, I made a detour. A new quilt shop, Patchwork Cottage, opened on the first of February. What a treat it was to visit this brand new shop!  It is in a portion of a previous shop, Stitch 'N Quilt. Many happy memories were made at S'NQ with our Stitchin' Sisters group, classes, sew-in's and events. Joan and Ladye, the owners of S'NQ, retired in December.

Mita Chatterjee is the new owner of Patchwork Cottage. Mita is taking her love of quilting and reflecting it in her shop. It will be a pleasure to watch her transform her shop. Mita graciously allowed me to take pictures for my blog. Here is Mita ringing up sales for her customers. One of my favorite quilters, Sandy Stites, is working with Mita in the shop. Sandy has worked at several quilt shops. She is a valuable addition to Mita's staff.

Immediately, when walking into the shop, this fabric was displayed. It's the new line Rebel Roses by Heather Mulder Peterson for Henry Glass. Just last night, I was admiring this fabric on Heather's blog Trends and Traditions

Hanging over the shelves was a completed top from Bonnie Hunter's lastest mystery quilt, Double Delight. According to Sandy, this top was pieced by another local quilter, Peggy McIntyre.

Here are some shop photos. I love the sofa in the back of the shop to sit and look at books, magazines, patterns and fabric.

I couldn't resist signing up for the $5.00 block of the month. It began last Sunday. The blocks will be beige and black with an additional different color each month. The design for the finishing kit was placed next to the block. I love sampler quilts. This will be a fun one.

I did come home with one little purchase in this colorful bag. One of the Moda mini Honey Bun Bake shop boxes convinced me to take it home. The Honey Bun is by Three Sisters in their new line Aviary.

Thank you Mita! It will indeed a pleasure visiting your shop. It will be fun seeing it take shape.
