Winning Gifts

I won a give-away. Paula who blogs at  A Latte Quilts - Lattes and A Lota Quilts had a give-away just because - No particular reason, just a very generous, giving quilter sharing things she loves with other quilters. I love give-aways. I love discovering them on blogs. I love sponsoring them. Heck, I love door-prizes, raffles, even give-aways at conference exhibits.(I actually won $5,000 in books for my previous school at a conference drawing)  Blog give-aways are just one of the many generous aspects of online quilters. Thank you, Paula for the lovely fat quarters, Starbucks gift-card and your wonderful note. Kristie from our Saturday Silver Thimble Group organized a swap to trade  bricks to make Bonnie Hunters Bricks & Stepping Stones quilt.  Several of these fat quarters will work perfectly for me to cut into bricks for our June swap. I love coffee. I grew up in a family that served coffee to the dog:) The gift card isn't in this picture because it was already in my purse waiting for the right day to treat myself to a Latte. Thank you, Paula for making my day!

Fall Festival Find

Yes, I know it's almost Spring, but it was at the Fall Festival that I found this treasure --- this wonderful old quilt book, Scrap Quilts: The Art of Making Do by Roberta Horton. I absolutely fell in love with this quilt:

There is just the picture and how it uses scraps. It's made from many colors and what looks like shirting fabrics. There are no instructions in how to make this quilt. I'm pretty good at following directions in a pattern, but haven't any real desire to design or sketch designs. I dont' EQ; although once I retire I think I'd like to learn EQ.

I was thrilled to discover a free pattern for this design.   Bonnie Hunter  at www.quiltville.com has written instructions called 

Patches and Pinwheels.  

Mary Johnson at www.maryquilts.com has a smaller version of the quilt called 16 Patch and Pinwheels.   

I'm thrilled to have found both of these patterns. I've printed them off and am ready to start hunting through my scraps and stash for the right fabrics. When I find myself on the road  to Sweet Home Quilt Shop or on the Atlanta Shop Hop later this month, I can look for fabric for  my 16 Patch and Pinwheel quilt.

Orange Crust... Step 5

It has taken me most of the week, but I can now check Step 5 of Orange Crush off of my sewing  list. I used different oranges in my blocks. Hope that doesn't play badly in the finished quilt. I'm loving my fabric choices, but now sure if I will like the finished result. I do like Bonnie's quilts so I'll just have to have patience. I have to remember that at this stage in a quilt I have doubts even if I'm sewing a kit that I love. 

Lot so errands today, physical therapy for me (I'll have to explain the bruises), swim team for my son, doctor's appointment, a bit of shopping and lunch at Chick-Fil-A (one of our favorite fast-food places) I may have time this evening to sew, but maybe not. We need to buy a new dishwasher. Our dishwasher is working, but being to rust. Any suggestions on a new dishwasher ?
