Pillow Perfect Porch

Project Decorating - Done! It feels so good to have this project finished. I've looked at this loveseat for two or three years thinking that I should do new cushion covers. The best part is that I used fabric that I had on hand. Whatever is left-over, I'll put in a bag for my art teacher. She asked for fabric for our students to use in projects. I even used batting remnants to fluff the cushions. Yahoo! Back to regular sewing. I have the Firecrackers top on my design wall. It's a weird shape. Long and narrow. I may play around with the design to see if I find a width I like better. I'm not really happy with the fabric in my stash for the borders. I'll try auditioning them again today. Have a fabulous Friday!

A Challenge

When my quilting buddies, Karin and Gretchen learn about my new project, they will worry about the state of my mental health. They will think Summer Vacation did not come soon enough.  They will  be right that I am "obsessive and unbalance",  but not because of my new project. It's about as far from "jelly roll quilts" as one can get.

This afternoon, I began cutting out "big" fabric  to recover the cushions on the loveseat the lives on  our screened-in porch. It's not my kind of sewing. I know how to sew large pieces of fabric. I normally choose not to sew anything larger than a charm square. The problem is we have a graduation party for Michael planned in June. We've invited family and friends. It takes having company to make me look around the house to  see what needs to be done inside and out. The cushions for this love-seat are a special size. I've tried to buy inexpensive ones, but they don't fit. Marion's sister has a business making items for decorators. With Michael's college expenses, I can't afford her prices even with the family discount. I even have fabric in my sewing room closet. My SIL gave me some remnants several years ago for window treatments that were never made into window treatments. So I have a plan. I even have one of the cushions completed. Maybe, I can get the other three cushions finished tomorrow. Then  I can go back to my real love - cutting and  sewing little pieces of fabric instead of fabric cuts bigger than most quilt blocks.

A Mini Vacation at Home

The weather this past couple of days has been absolutely perfect. This is Georgia weather at it's best. We stayed home for Memorial Day. Our boys were away with friends for most of the weekend. My husband and I just enjoyed time together. We spent lots of time on our back porch. We had it built about two years ago. It's wonderful to sit on the couch and listen to the birds and other neighborhood sounds. We are eating most of our meals out here. It will get too hot and humid (this is the South) soon and we will have to choose the times to be out on the porch. I've been saving handwork and pinning of my Orange Crush blocks until evenings. I can visit with Marion and just enjoy the outdoors. These past couple of days with few demands are just what I needed. We are doing appointments this week - dentist, eye-doctor, hair, etc. but I've spaced them throughout the week. Hope that everyone is enjoying this beginning of Summer.
