I also enjoy making string blocks. Making string blocks is pure "pedal to the medal" with machine sewing. It's liberating. Recently, I met with my friend Debbie (no blog) to make string blocks for our guild project for Quilts of Valor. We each cut strips from our red, white, and blue scraps. We sewed, talked, eat and had a blast making these blocks. We were both having a "bad hair day" so no people photos:)
I am delighted to offer a giveaway of some of my favorite scraps. I got carried away going through my scrap box so I there will be two winners.
I'll pack them up in the small priority mail boxes (on my "to do list" for today). To enter this giveaway, please leave a comment on this post. In your comment, share with me the things you like to do with your scraps. I love reading what other quilters do with their fabric. The giveaway will end on Saturday at noon. I'll use the random number generator to choose the two winners. I'm having oral surgery on Friday. As soon as I can during the weekend, I'll contact the winners. Good luck to everyone. Thanks so very much for visiting my blog!

I love making scrappy quilts out of my scraps! They turn out so cute and aged looking.

Scraps work great for paper piecing! Thanks for the chance to win!
Scraps are so much fun! I like to make scrappy quilts and pincushions. Thanks for the chance to win more scraps! :0)
I am trying to learn ways to use scraps! I am enjoying these posts so much. I have had so much fun using up scraps by making little quilts. I made 3 little star ones and I am using Christmas scraps to make a little house quilt.
I love to use scraps to make string quilts, or to use on mystery quilts. I also make little quiltlets to decorate with.
I use my scraps for applique, table runners, coasters and am trying out string quilts! I also make my Hexie Caddy using scraps. Look here:http://pennyshands.blogspot.com/2010/08/hexie-caddy-tutorial.html
So you see, I can do with more scraps!
I'm really starting to use more of my scraps - finally. I find that I enjoy making scrappy quilts. Thanks for the great giveaway!
Being new to quilting and not really having past experience to draw on, I can only imagine that if I HAD enough scraps, I'd sew them together in strips to make maybe 8 inch blocks similar to what you did with the red, white & blue. Maybe diagonally.
I would love to win some scraps! Especially since the fabrics look so fun!
-craftydonnelly
I love scraps and scrappy quilts - my larger pieces get cut into strips, squares and bricks (per Bonnie's advice!). Anything smaller than that goes into a huge tub that I occasionally (more like rarely!) crazy quilt sew onto 10.5 inch foundation squares - the tub is overflowing right now! I really need to get back to doing that more often . . . .
Please enter me in your drawing!
Thanks!

I like to make 2.5 inch scrap squares and save them. Sometimes I make crazy quilt blocks. And I save the tinier pieces for appliqué. Sometimes I make HST too! I would live to win your scraps, they look much bigger than mine!
Hi Becky!
Good luck with your surgery on Friday :) I started learning how to do string quilts last year and like you it's on my to do list. I like the way the scrappy colors all seem to fit together once the pieces are put together. I haven't made a whole quilt yet, but it would be fun - especially with someone else's scraps included. Thanks for the chance to win :)
I love how Jodi keeps finding more people like you with such cool blogs to read! My current favorite project for scraps is an addiction... mug rugs! But I also like making wonky stars, and am in the process of finishing a scrap quilt containing stars and scrap blocks from Jodi's tutorial earlier this month. That bright piece on top of your pile is begging to be a mug rug... :)
I love scraps! And it's so fun to use new scraps that haven't passed through my stash. I'd love to make a quilt using only scraps :-) Thanks for sharing.
I want to make a scrappy quilt, but mine all seem to be in the same colors! Variety would be most welcome.
I love the pedal to the metal sewing too. Your sewing setup looks great.
I would use those scraps for making quilts with my granddaughters.
Love scraps and I am always amazed how great thos pieces look together in the end. I love to make tablerunners and small wallquilts, little bags and at the moment those mugrugs which are so great for using scraps. Want to do some for presents together with a mug for this christmas! Not sure if you would send overseas but thanks for the fun with the give away!
I just joined an online quilting bee, so I'm "collecting" as many scraps as possible to send out during my month since I love scrappy quilts. Not certain yet on what sort of block I'll ask for, and I'm actually considering asking for random blocks from each person.
I like to make scrappy quilts. Especially "Coin" scrappy quilts. They are my favorite!!
I'm participating in the scarp along with Jody, so I'm learning lots of fun things to do with scraps.
I love making scrappy quilts and baby quilts. I also love to applique. Thanks for the chance to win some our your scraps.
I love small quilty projects. Things like doll quilts, mug rugs and scrappy baskets are my favorites. Lovely giveaway! :o)
My scraps are currently sitting in a pile waiting patiently to be put to good use. I have lots of ideas in my head and see lots of fabulous ideas on blogs like yours.
Hope your scraps will join mine.
barberg@sbcglobal.net
I sm msjorly into scrap quilting. I have two hampers full of scraps and usually take ordinary patterns and see how I can make them scrappy. I am currently hand sewing a GFG quilt using 1.5" hexagons....all scrappy!
Your scraps would be great for a Grandmother's Flower Quilt I am working on! Great giveaway!!
Scraps can go into my hexagon charm quilt, or they can be used for sting quilts for charity quilts or for any of Bonny Hunter's quilts. Hope I win, thanks for the giveaway.
I would love a chance to win one of those wonderful bundles of scraps. What a generous giveaway!
I enjoy applique, so I use my tiny scraps there and I love scrappy quilts. I love the homey feel of a scrappy quilt, just like great-grandma use to make! I would love to win your scraps!
I want to make a dear jane quilt out of my scraps - Teri Dingler
Since Christmas is around the corner, I'm thinking about making some scrappy pillow covers in various Christmas themes :) And I'd probably use some of the scraps on the scrappy quilt I'm finally making... and some for Christmas/thank you/love you cards :)
thanks for sharing with us!
I"ve used sraps collected at a quilt retreat to make paperpieced name badges for all the attendees. I did this for three different retreats. I've also made a twin sized quilt top with them.
The strings quilt looks like so much fun. Have to try that, if I can collect enought scraps. Thanks for the chance
I love scrappy quilts and would love to add some of yours to a quilt. Thanks
Since I am new to quilting, I don't have very many scraps. So right now I just enjoy collecting them. But one day I would love to make a wonky log cabin block quilt with them. Thanks.
First my husband is a dentist so hang in there all will be fine! Second right now I am using my Christmas fabrics to make wonky stars a great stash buster. Third thank you for the chance to win your great scraps. and how fun to find a new blog to me!
I love scrappy quilts, and would love to add yours to mine.

Good luck with your surgery on Friday. The string blocks are looking good.
I would use them in scrappy quilts for my girls' beds and for their projects as they are learning to sew too! :) Thanks for the opportunity!
I use my scraps for smaller projects, like zipper pouches for my two year old son's friends, or applique for t-shirts on special occasions and holidays. I also plan to do a big scrappy quilt using as many scraps as I can at the end of each year!
I would love to make mug rugs fro gifts!
Becky - just found your blog since Jodi is promoting it. I am going to become a follower as of now.
Marie
I've not had much experience with scraps yet because I'm so new to quilting . . . I've got a few little "artsy" quilts running through my brain. I love those red, white and blue string blocks! Thanks for the chance.
Good luck with the surgery...I love to make table runners for the holidays with scraps. I've made a few quilts but had to buy all the different fabrics to make them look scrappy!
Oh I love scraps. I want to make a scrap quilt and also a few little gifts for friends.
kristen.sheffield (at) gmail.com
Well, first off, fold, fondle and organize...then...make a ticker tape quilt or a string quilt! Yeah! thanks for the fun!
I'm learning to quilts so scraps are a great way to do it!
After seeing jodi at Pleasant Home's method for making scrap quilts, I was hooked. I've already started one quilt and can't wait to start the next. Your scraps would be very handy. Thanks for the chance to win. Hope your surgery goes well on Friday.
I love string quilts! And I LOVE vintage sewing machines - I spotted one on your table. Anyway, I would use the scraps for projects for the Sewing Circle I started at church. The young girls are always looking for new and fun things to make! Karin
I love to make minature hexies, potholders and mug rugs! Thanks for offering such a great giveaway!
So far, I have only been collecting a few of my scraps. I only recently learned there were so many ways to use them! One of my favorite ideas, that I am looking forward to using, is the Ticker Tape confetti style quilt! The ones I've seen have all been so wonderful :-)
Thanks for sharing some of your scraps with us!
~ Meagan
Thank you for hosting such a nice giveaway! I am a new quilter (working on my very first quilt right now!), so I don't have a lot of scraps yet, but I intend to start making hexagons, and really love scrappy quilts. I can't wait to have the stash to get started!
i love using scraps for small projects...like a cup cozy or fabric covered buttons!! thanks for a chance.
Besides making quilts with my scraps I make potholders, journal covers, pincushions, card holders, table toppers and more.
I use the scraps for scrappy quilts and applique. So much fun. Thanks for the giveaway and fun ideas. mdwelectric@comcast.net
Scraps?!? I can always use scraps either in the plethora of scrappy paper pieing projects I have going or to make a lovely quilt for a wee at risk baby via http://danettesangels.tripod.com I send at least 4 boxes of sweep tiny baby goodies per year and scrap would help fill up another box of preemie and newborn lovies!
~Yane
I'm new to quilting and am currently working on my first quilt. I really want to make a string quilt, but I don't have very many scraps yet. I would love to win some. Thanks!
I am in love with mug rugs at the moment.
Good luck with the surgery... not fun!
thanks for the giveaway!
I like to do pretty much everything with my scraps...when it comes to quilting, scrap quilting is my fav. I like how all the different and random fabrics come together and create an amazing end result.
(Good luck with the surgery!)
Thank you for the chance to win. If I won I would love to make a siderweb quilt.
I love making quilty bags with scraps! great giveaway!
Love scraps! I'm following Jodi's scrap along. I made small projects like pincushions and needle cases but I want to make a quilt! I'm saving up!
I'm down on scraps and need some new ones for sure! I too would love to make a fun scrappy quilt. Thanks so much for the chance to win!
I just love making scrap quilt. I rarely buy fabric collections. I think bits of all sorts of fabric look wonderful in a quilt.
I want to make a string quilt also. I love yours. I also want to make a scrappy 1/2 log cabin. It's similar to a regular log cabin, but looks easier to me.
Well, I haven't accumulated enough scraps to make a string quilt - which I really want to try. But with the small ones I have my favorite is stitching them onto small moleskin notebooks to carry with me and give as little gifts you can stick in with a birthday card (and with an extra couple of stamps).
Wow - 2 piles of scraps and 2 winners. I use scraps like others use yardage. I have never bought large pieces of fabric except for backing - and I love to piece my backs. String, inspirational, wonky houses, trees, and stars, postcards and notecards, paperpieced and machine pieced. They all find a perfect home nestled in a quilt.
Cute ideas. I would love a stack of scraps.
I like to make small projects I see on line. lindagerig@sbcglobal.net
I'd really like to try my hand at a "ticker tape quilt" like the one from crazy mom quilts....
extra scraps come in handy as I'm new to quilting and have very few scraps :)
So far all I have done with my scraps is hoard them! I am just getting my feet wet in quilting but would love my next quilt to be a scrap quilt!
I also enjoy the pedal to the metal process of string blocks. Such a grea way to use up scraps and be prolific in my quilting
I've mostly used my scraps for paper piecing. I have tried the string blocks yet.
I have only been quilting for about 6 weeks so don't have too many scraps saved up from the three quilts I've made BUT the scraps that are big enough for it become inchy hexagons! I'm amazed at how fast those little hexies come together and make something out of nothing! :-)
Too funny you got carried away picking scraps. I guess as with all things sewing or quilting we all get carried away with it no matter what we're doing. LOL
I'd love to win some. Thank youy for offering them.
We use scraps to make quilts for our quilt ministry - they go to people in need. Usually it's medical issues, but sometimes it's people just going through a rough path who need encouragement. Oh, yeah and we make quilts for newborns too! Your scraps would definitely have a good home.....
I love adding little scraps to my quilts to have fun, different patterns!
I have a bin of strips I cut but I need to add more flare to them. I would love to have the red polka dot fabric to make something for my daughter (clothing accessories maybe). Plus I use scraps to create girlie purses for all the birthday parties my son is happy to attend (we couldn't attend the only boy party so I lucked out there.) I enjoyed your blog.
I use my scraps for mindless sewing when I need a little pick me up. Thanks for sharing I know yours are sure to bring a smile if I win.
For Christmas this year I am making my 6 nieces & nephews scrap quilts. I would love to add some of your stash!
love scraps...add them to my scraps...and then to quilts!!
I love making mug rugs with scraps!... so, I would LOVE your scraps!
I love to make doll quilts and bookmarks with my scraps. One of these days, I'm going to make a string quilt. Thanks for the giveaway!
A favorite way to use scraps is to do 6" blocks using liberated patchwork (ala Gwen Marston) techniques. I also enjoy any small size blocks, applique or patchwork. And I can use scraps to sew for a benefit holiday sale each year. Your scraps would be a tremendous gift to me!
Thanks very much, and good luck with your surgery.
I like making placemats, tablerunners, christmas ornaments...and doll clothes out of scraps.
:o)
pippirose59 at gmail dot com
I've been making potholders from my scraps.
I haven't made enough things to have enough scraps to make anything, but I have seen so many quilts made out of scraps that are so beautiful and would love to make one of my own! Thanks for the giveaway!
oral surgery...yuck! I hope you will recover quickly.
Depending on the kind of scrap is really the key on how I will use it. I love making quilts and that is were most go. Either string, postage or even crazy are some of my favorite ways to use them.
Good luck with oral surgery.
One persons scraps anothers dream.
First off it's super fun and exciting to open up a package that contains fabric pieces. Even if they are scraps or small pieces, just going thru them and loving them is so exciting. Part of a fabric-a-holics dream I guess. I do lots of things with scraps. Strip circles for rugs, applique, scrappy blocks are just a few.
Oh scraps!! Wonderful scraps! Please count me in. What do I do with my scraps? Oh, lots of things. Donation quilts. Family quilts. ME quilts! Scraps are the best.
scraps are perfect for applique. I like to sort through to find just the right piece of fabric for a design on wallhangings and table runners.
I want to make a ticker tape quilt, and I am currently working on Oh Fransson's tokyo subway quilt!
Thanks for your scrap giveaway. I have learned some neat string quilts from the Heartstring blog. I give my string quilts to our Cancer Treatment Center for patients. I would put your scraps in my love quilts.
I am a big string block fanatic. I also like ticker tape quilts. It's a fun way to use the smaller pieces.
I'd love to play with your scraps. I am a relatively new quilter and don't have that many scraps of my own. I'd like to use them for decorating things like little girls purses, and bibs etc to make for our school's bazaar.
ltenhage@gmail.com
I would love to make myself a huge scrappy quilt...
I hope the surgery goes well! (At least talking to us involves your hands and not your mouth :))
caitlindevlin@hotmail.com
I have a string quilt on my list to make with what scraps I have. At this point I don't have that many so I would really love to win your scraps!
Hey there. I tend to use my scraps for applique but with Jodi's influence I am seeing that I would like to start using them for some patching:) Your lovely scraps would be warmly welcomed by my wee scraps! Ciao
After some fondling and welcoming new scraps into my home, I'd probably make fabric wrapped bowls as gifts. It's a great way to use up miscellaneous scraps.
Great idea. Sounds like you and Debbie got a lot done.
I recently came out of my "comfort zone" and have started paper-piecing. And scraps will be helpful for those. And I love scrap quilts. And having your scraps in there, what a wonderful thing to do, to be able to look at my new quilt (or paper-pieced project) and know some of the scraps came from your giveaway. Thanks for participating in this giveaway...that's so generous of you. And good luck with your oral surgery. I hope you come through with sailing colors.
Oh, I just love your scraps! I'm new to quilting and just starting my scrap collection. :-) So I really haven't made much with my scraps yet. I did make a phone case this week though! :-)
Scrap quilts are my favorite thing to make, but I also enjoy embellishing my daughter's clothes with them and making scrappy table toppers and placemats...anything scrappy looks well loved and warm, even if you just made it yesterday! Good luck with your oral surgery and thx for the giveaway!
Thanks for the chance to enter. I am having fun making pincushions from scraps at the moment. I have several friends who are just recently adopting craft hobbies and two nieces who are showing real flair for the creative, so any scraps to add to this project would be wonderful.
I'd love to win your scraps! I've been making some mug rugs lately so could use some different fabrics.
Thank you!
jetvic@yahoo.com
I love making lots of little things with scraps - pincushions, doll quilts, mug rugs, pillows, etc. Maybe someday I'll be bold enough to try a whole quilt! Thanks for the give away!
My scraps are used for making journals, zipper bags, burp cloths, slippers, headbands etc. I never run out of things to make!
Right now I like using scraps for paper piecing. But when I get more variety in my scraps, I want to make a scrappy quilt. I really like the way they look. I like Bonnie Hunter's system as well. I also love Jan Karon's books. Thanks for the giveaway.
Thanks for the chance to win. Recently I cut scraps from 1" up to 3" strips. My intention is to make a scrap quilt out of it when I have enough. If half yards are considered as scraps... Gosh! Then I don't know how much scrap I have - lol!
I love Bonnie Hunter's scrap quilts too. I have made a couple of them and if I win I wiill use these scraps to make another on. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I love using scraps to make quilted mug rugs and place mats. They can also make a really cute scrappy binding.
Every so often I cut 8 inch muslin squares & start randomly pulling scraps from my bin & sewing them on, crazy quilt style. I have lots of littler scraps & someday I'll tackle those too. the 8 inch squares make nice charity quilts.
Its so nice of you to do one, let alone TWO giveways.
oh poor baby! hope your dental surgery goes well for you and you feel chipper fast!
I almost always make scrappy quilts. this year for christmas I am making scrappy lunch bags and notebook covers. all my daughters work so they have been hinting!
thanks for putting my name in the hat!
Good luck!
Lorene
I like to have lots and lots of potholders handy. They also make great add ons to gifts. Scraps make them so much fun..you never know how the next one will turn out :)
I make fabric postcards and little mats. I am making a postage stamp quilt (long term project) and want to start a string quilt. I love scraps and use them everywhere I can.
Thanks for the great giveaway of scraps. I am making bedside bookholders, mug rugs and camera straps for the holidays!
Love your blog!
butler83ataoldotcom
I'm a new quilter and my daughter has been begging for a quilt. I'm gathering all the scraps I can get my hands on because she's a scrappy kind of gal. I can't wait to grant her wish. :)
Wow, the only thing I like more than my scraps is other people's scraps LOL. I'd love to win some of yours.
As far as what I would do with them...well, just about anything, but I do really love string quilts, so that would be a top the list, but I also cut my scraps into squares and strips and use those for projects as well.
Pick me! Pick me! Those are gorgeous scraps...how can you part with them?!?
But if you are willing to give them, I am happily willing to sew them into a quilt :) Thank you for your generosity!
Good luck with your dental surgery this week. As you recover I hope you will be dreaming about the mystery and decide to join in the fun! The more the merrier!
Would love to make a scrappy quilt. I haven't really done anything with my scraps yet, except hoard them, saving them for when I have enough to make a scrappy quilt (I am a new quilter, so don't have many scraps yet). Thanks for the chance to win.
I love scraps. they are a continuationg of the quilting philosphy ... sharing and saving fabrics. Scraps from a friend always add a different dimension to a quilt ... no two people ever pick the same fabrics.
Thanks for the chance to win.
I'd love to win!
I love to make string quilts, wonky stars, Dresden plates, hexagons and bow tie quilts out of scraps...the scrappier the better! I would LOVE to win some lovely 'fresh' scraps!! :o)
Take care and thanks for the chance to win!
Paulette
I'm a table runner freak. I use scraps for that and also pillows and pincushions. Thanks.
I love to make toys with fabric and little quilt for kids in the hospitals.
Also for my family and friends.
I am Brazilian living in Alaska, I would love to get some fabric to start new projects for this hard core winter. Work for school I do not make enough to afford pay bills and buy wonderful fabric ti keep my project with the kids up.
fingers crossed :D
www.brasilhawaii.com
I've only used small scraps for applique so far, but I want to make one of the scrappy quilts Jodie showed us on her Scrap Along. Being scrap free right now, I can't!
I love Bonnie Hunter's patterns too. I usually use different colours than she does ... brighter ... but her patterns are awesome. Thank you for the giveaway!
Goodness me, you have so many interesting blogs to discover. I know I'll be back on your site a lot. Keep me in mind when you draw the winner. I need scraps.
I love to make scrap quilts. I am like you - I have more than one Bonnie Hunter mystery not finished, however I'm going to join in the Cotton Boll one anyway. Thanks for a chance in the giveaway.
Small pieces are great for appliqué but I love trying out new blocks and making "sampler quilts" by using a something like Kona Snow and scraps. kcarlson1152[at]hotmail.com
First off, good luck with your surgery, I hope all goes well. I am collecting scraps for a postage stamp quilt that takes over 4500 different fabrics, and I am almost there, a few hundred short! That is what I'd do with these lovely scraps.
I would love the scraps. I need more so I can make a scrappy quilt.
I love scraps!! Thank you for the chance to win,Amy
hmm what do i do with my scraps? mostly i hoard them, lol! but i've started using them recently, i've been making scrappy blocks! i love scraps, so i'd love to win some! thanks for the chance!
OOOOhhhhh....love the scraps! Since I'm new to scraps, I don't know exactly what to do with them. However, I did make a table runner out of scraps my mom brought over. I LOVED the challenge of figuring out what goes with what. Right now, I like cutting squares and rectangles.
Thanks for a chance to win some scraps!
I love to use my scraps in all of my sewing and quilting projects. I hate to think of a little piece of lovely fabric not having a home in a quilt or something!! My favorite kind of quilt to make is a scrap quilt, so I would use the scraps for one of my projects.
I make quilts for children in foster care. Many of them are taken from their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Having something to call their very own is special to them. Thank you for the giveaway.
snuginmyden@yahoo.com
I did a little applique with some scraps today. I want to make a string quilt when I have enough scraps.
I use my scraps for play therapy with my kids. My two youngest have speech delays so we play with scraps that we buildings and mountains that brave knights ride over to save the world. I also put them in a box buy size of scrap and when my oldest isn't playing he comes in to my sewing area and sits down next to me and matches up all the scraps and then folds them and counts them and asks questions we spend bonding time together... And he loves it...that is how he learned his numbers and colors.
But I use them also for bibs and for scrap rugs and for fabric toys for my friends and their kids....
While I don't really have scraps, I use my leftover fabrics from blocks in my borders and binding. For example, I used the parts cut off my large paper-pieced fan blocks to make minature fan blocks for my border. Also was a necessity because didn't have enough Oriental themed fabric to make the suggested border. Result -- pieces leftover are irregular half inch bits. I raw edge sewed those that were not ravelling on a 6x6 fabric - almost had enough to cover. One day may make a card. Result - nothing left. Thanks for the giveaway.
I love to make fabric baskets with my scraps. Thank you for the giveaway and good luck with your surgery :)
ap_lemos at yahoo dot com
OOh, I like your string project! Right now, with two new granddaughters being born this summer (cousins, not twins) I am busy making everything from quilts to embellished onesies to fabric baby shoes. Those beautiful scraps would get a workout at this grandma's house!
I like to cut my scraps into squares or half-square triangles, then use pairs of them as "on-ramps" and "off-ramps" to keep my thread from going down into my machine and making a tangle...then I snip them off and drop them into a bag. Then when I have a bagful, I can easily make a scrap quilt for one of the charities my church supports.
thanks fo the great giveaway! acp328@yahoo.com
Nearly every one of my quilts is a scrap quilt. I like looking at photos of other people's quilt and trying to recreate them using scraps. Thanks for the chance to win!
I like making HST and waiting to get enough different ones to turn into something! Glad to find a new to me blog and the chance to win some of your scraps.
Good luck with that dental surgery.
I really like scrap quilts and the scrappier the better. My latest quilt is a King-sized Irish Chain with an applique flower vine (applique part not done yet). I could use your scraps to finish the vine and flowers.
Hopefully you're feeling well after surgery.
My favorite thing to do with scraps is to make Crazy Quilt blocks.
gevin13{at}gmail{dot}com
I need your help with my stuff-see you Saturday?
Since I am new to quilting, I would love a big heap of scrap fabric. Most of the patterns I am drawn to call for scraps. Love your blog and thanks for the giveaway!
tippyio@hotmail.com
Love the blog and all of the information you gather for us.
Recently made a couple scrap quilts...presently working on a scrap shower curtain. Many Blessings, Dawn
This comment is just in case you haven't drawn the winner yet. I'd love to win!
