Pat Sloan's Radio Show

I first began to read and follow blogs after hearing designer Pat Sloan speak at a Gwinnett Quilt Guild meeting several years ago. At first there were just four blogs that I read daily. Pat's blog was one of those four blogs. Her Yahoo groups provided much inspiration and motivation. In the past couple of weeks, Pat has begun a new endeavor, her radio show or podcast. I enjoy listening to podcasts while driving home from school. Pat's radio show is a fabulous addition to the radio shows/podcasts that are available for us quilters. I download it from ITunes, but you can listen to it directly from her website. Pat is doing a tremendous job in interviewing her guests. Her questions about creativity with each guest has been insightful. The next show is one in which Pat herself will be interviewed.

Pat encourages listeners to post questions or comments on her blog. Imagine my surprise to discover that I had won a give-away after posting a comment on the show with Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Company. It was like winning the Grand Prize Sweepstakes.
A photo of three layer cakes for three winners was posted on both Pat's blog and Carrie's blog. When my box arrived, I expected to find one layer cake. I was very excited to receive one layer cake. To my surprise there were two layer cakes in the box. I love Moda pre-cuts, but have to purchase them sparingly. The priority mail box was stuffed full of quilting goodness.
Here are the two layer cakes. One is Sorbet by Moda. The other is BasicGrey Blush from Moda. Both layer cakes have great potential. My brain is plotting new projects using these new to me fabric lines.

Carrie shares on the radio show about her Schnibbles patterns. I have exactly one Schnibbles pattern in my pattern collection. Look at the 8 patterns that are now part of my collection! I'm anxious to take one of the layer cakes and create a quilt or two with these new to me Schnibbles.

But that's not all the box contained. A new Olfa rotary cutter has a new home at my place. Thanks Pat and Carrie! What a win! Thanks Pat for an awesome radio show, the newest addition to our quilting community!

Quilt Shop Grand Opening

Today was the Grand Opening Celebration at our newest quilt shop, Patchwork Cottage in Lawrenceville. Quilt designer extraordinaire, Pat Sloan was at the shop to help launch the celebration. The shop has Pat's new line of fabric Arabella as well as some of her Sweetbriar line. The quilt in the background is Pat's new pattern "A Secret Garden" using her Arabella fabric. It was fun visiting with Pat. Pat's blog was the first blog that I followed and read religiously. She spoke at the Gwinnett Quilter's Guild several years back. I took time off from school to attend her lecture at the guild event. I've followed her blog and numerous Yahoo Groups since then.

It was great fun visiting, eating, and shopping. There were quite a few ladies there that I had not seen in a bit - Jane V., Linda K., Marty M., Jayne B.   Lots of fun!

Look at the fun bag that was given to the first 50 shoppers. I think I was number 49. Of course, Rusty has to check out everything on "his" sofa. I purchased some light prints for the 16 Patch and Pinwheels project. I don't have what I need for that upcoming project. The navy print is for a project in "the plastic boxes." I looked at it the other day. It could use a couple more indigo pieces.

National Quilting Day

Saturday is National Quilting Day. How will you celebrate this most favorite holiday? My quilting club  The Silver Thimble Club meets tomorrow from 10 to 3. I plan to sew and sew and sew. I cut the binding for two quilts. The quilts are at the long-arm quilter, but I want to have the binding ready to attach when they are quilted.  I also cut some 10 inch flannel squares and batting for a rag quilt. I chose blue and tan flannel from my fabric stash. I dont' have alot of flannel, but I've been mentally planning this quilt for several years. My plan is to donate this quilt to the Gwinnett Quilter's Guild's Just for You service project. These quilts are donated to children who are in the hospital with serious illnesses. The guild collects several hundred quilts each year. I want to make one for an older child, especially an older teen boy. This quilt will also be easy to sew while we talk, laugh and have a great time.

Sunday, Patchwork Cottage will have it's grand opening. Patchwork Cottage is our newest quilt shop. It opened in early Febrary. Mita, the owner, has invited Pat Sloan to help celebrate her grand opening. I'm hoping to spend some time at the shop visiting with Pat and enjoying the new shop. Well, maybe I'll do a little shopping:)
 It sounds like great fun.

Lucky!

I won! This weekend Pat Sloan hosted an online sewing retreat. She gave away 20 prizes throughout the weekend from the comments on her blog. Sunday evening, I won one of the last prizes. Yahoo! Pat is sending me a bag of her scraps. I love scraps especially someone else's scraps.  Thanks, Pat! This is a real treat. The whole online retreat was super. Just what I needed after an exhausting week at work.

The missing Maison de Noel fabric has been found. My friend Carol saw the picture and plea on my blog. She found the fabric that I needed in her stash and brought it to me today. Many of you checked your stashes too. Thanks for looking!

Pincushions

Blueberry Lane Designs is having a fun give-away. If you post a picture of your most used pincushion, you are entered in her give-away of The Pincushion Book. Just hearing that the book if out-of-print has me fired up to have that book.  As I was taking a picture of my Chicken pincushion, my most used and favorite pincushion, I couldn't help but think that he has lost some of his spunk. :)

Saturday is National Quilting Day. Pat Sloan is hosting a sew-in. Take a look at her fabulous blog for details on the online event. It's actually all weekend. Take a look at the books that she has proposed for her book club for the next couple of months. Lots of good looking books!
