Cleaning and a Give-Away

Blessings! I finally was motivated to do some cleaning in my bedroom closet and my sewing room. Last Summer, I had lots of pain with my hip (which has since been surgically replaced) and didn't get much done. This Summer, I'm feeling much better. After cleaning my closets, I brought over 8 garbage bags full of items to the Goodwill drop-off place. I did attempt to recycle some of our stuff. Many items from my sewing room made it to the Stitch-in for the give-aways. I have a bag of items to bring to school to share with our teachers.

I did hold back a couple of books to have another blog give-away!!! I'm close to 200 posts so lets call it a Cleaning My Sewing Room/200 post give-away. I'm still putting my things away from the Stitch-In so I may have some additional items (fabric) to add to the books in the above photo. The Days to Remember book is from Black Mountain Quilts. The pattern for Autumn Ridge and a log-cabin Watermelon Quilt are in this book. The Two Color Quilt Book has red and white quilts in one half and blue and white quilts in the other half. The Sew Fun So Colorful Quilts is from Me and My Sister Designs.

To enter the give-away, comment on the post for one entry. Please share ways you recycle items that you no longer want or need. An example is that I list books that we no longer want at Paperbackswap.com. It's also a great site for hard-to-find books. I also locate books that my MIL wants to read and select to have them shipped directly to her in her isolated community.

Receive another chance by becoming a Follower of my blog.

Receive two extra chances by blogging about my give-away.

Looking forward to reading your recycling hints! Thanks so very much for reading my blog:) It has been a blessing making new friends through my blog and yours!

Opps! Guess I should set an ending date to the give-away. Let's make it next Sunday, July 19th. I'll do the random generator thing on Monday morning. Again, thank you!

Thank you for a fun giveaway and congratulations on 200 posts. I love reading your blog. I love all books (and fabric) so would be thrilled with any from your selection. I don't think I have any earth shattering recycling ideas, sounds like I do much of what you do...We donate alot to our schools for the art room, we give our magazines to my brother in laws office so they can be passed along.
thanks for a chance at your giveaway. Jenny

I can always use more books. I've decided that I will not live long enough to use up all my stash.

Congrats on 200 posts! didn't you have a giveaway not long ago? Maybe it was with SEWN because I've been here before. Anyway; I recycle plastic grocery bags as wastebasket liners....rarely have to buy garbage bags anymore. I also rinse out ziplock bags to reuse over and over till they spring a leak. I keep some clothing to 'upcycle' into a purse or quilt. Can't think of anything more right now.

Congratulations on your 200th post. Great job too!

Your give-away sounds like fun. Count me in.

I have big fall and spring campaigns where I try to go thru our closets looking for items that we really don't use, but are in good condition and someone else could use. We donate to various thrift stores. I also like to donate sewing items to a charity project that teaches women in Mexico to sew. But there are so many ways to recycle....I try hard to avoid throwing things in the trash and filling up the landfills!

What a great idea for a giveaway! One thing I try to do is give reading and school books that my children have outgrown to my nieces who now have young children. I donate to the Hospice thrift store items that a still good which we are not going to use anymore. I like to see it support a worthy cause and not the landfills :-)

For a long time I would crochet old sheets into rugs to be used for Humanitarian projects! All fabric scraps are used in scrappy quilt tops and used for service projects as well. Quilting is fun and very fulfilling no matter what, why and where it is going.

Wow, you have been busy. I try to recycle anything that I can. I take books I have read to school and we sell them to raise money for Relay for Life. I donate old clothing to Goodwill or to one of the local churches. I take old magazies (the ones I don't send to you) to the hospital back home for the waiting room.

You have 3 great-looking books that I don't have, so count me in! I'm already a follower, so does that count? I donate household items and clothes to places that call me every month or so to tell me that they'll have a truck in my neighborhood. They'll pick them up from my front porch. Isn't that great! I'm going to blog about your give-away, too.

I'll miss seeing you at Thimbles again this Saturday.

Clothes usually go to the second hand shop.

Congratulations on 200 posts and a clean sewing room! Decluttering and Recycling are on my agenda this year. I use selvages and narrow sturdy strips in my garden to tie up my tomatoes. Old hand towels are now replacing Swiffer pads. Small batting scraps are perfect for dusting and cleaning excess oil from my quilting machine. These are the batting bits left from piecing larger batting scraps.
Happy sewing!

Please enter me in your drawing, I also just signed up to follow your blog. I hear ya about getting too much stuff in the sewing room, happens to me too. When I need to clean out my sewing room so I can actually see what I have in there I give fabric and such away to my friends and my sister.

What an exciting giveaway, and congrats on the almost 200th post. I have been home "spring" cleaning the house this week.
If I have books that I think might be interesting, I take them over to the nursing home that my grandparents used to be in. They really appreciate new books to while away the hours. Clothing goes to the hospital auxiliary shop (where I usually pick up some quilting goodies while I am there).
I try to either re-home or re-use anything that I can and reduce my impact.
Thanks for the great giveaway.

As for my craft supplies, I share htem with a very good blog friend.

Recycling is easy for me. At my quilt guild meetings we have a table for members to put out their "giveaways". No matter what I bring someone will take it home, of course I end up bringing home other people's giveaways so I am probably no further ahead!

I have been a follower for a while, hope that counts.

What a great give-away! Thanks for the chance to win. As far as recycling, my newest idea is to use odd pieces of left over batting on my Swiffer sweeper. It works! Congrats on your 200th.

OH good - I'm just in time. I love two color quilts, watermelons and log cabins - what can I say. When we have things that we no longer want/need we take them to my husband's work. One of the clients there (he works with developmentally delayed adults) has a project of collecting things to take to Goodwill. We put our things in her barrel and you would think we'd given her a million dollars. Each item that goes in her barrel brings her so much excitement that I like to find things to take to her. She then takes them to Goodwill (with the help of a job coach) and they give her a receipt showing that she donated - and she is thrilled.

Now I'll become your follower - that's two things I've done today. :-)

Thanks for becoming a follower of my blog and for joining my giveaway. I would love to join yours. I tend to give things that i don't use any more to thrift shops and try to make scrap quilts when I have lots of scraps accumulating.
I am now a follower of your blog, and have posted on my blog about yours.

I do recycle household items and clothing fairly regularly- We live in a small house and there is often a space shortage in my house. I am not as good at parting with my sewing/quilting things. A friend of mine suggested that she removes the extra garbage in her house on a weekly basis- not just her regular garbage but the less obvious stuff that piles up too. Sometimes, these are things to be recycled or donated and other times not.
What a nice giveaway.

Anna

Thanks for the giveaway! We have a group that passes on magazines and books to each other. I did join the BookSwap and I thank you for that tip. I'll also post on my Blog.
